Ollantay

op.17 (13’), composed in 1947 by Alberto Ginastera (Argentina), is inspired by a precolombian dramatic poem of incaic origin. The theme turns around the myth of Ollantay, son of the Earth, who opposes the Inca son of the Sun. The latter declares war on Ollantay for profaning the Temple of the Virgins in an attempt to rape the daughter of the Inca. The work is in three movements: View of Ollantaytambo, The warriors, and The death of Ollantay. Published by BOOSEY & HAWKES.
